Die 16 Dinosaurier Quilt Blöcke – Individuell und vielseitig / 16 Dinosaur Quilt Blocks – Unique and Versatile
Der Dinosaurier Quilt besteht aus 16 verschiedenen Blöcken, die jeden Dinosaurier liebevoll darstellen. Zu den Motiven gehören:

The Dinosaur Quilt is made up of 16 different blocks, each lovingly depicting a dinosaur. The designs include:

Die Blöcke sind in den Größen 9 und 18 Inch erhältlich (beide Größen sind in der Anleitung enthalten), was du vielleicht schon von meinen anderen Projekten wie dem Tier Quilt, ABC-Tier Quilt, Fahrzeug Quilt, Piraten Quilt oder Weihnachts-Quilt kennst. Dadurch lassen sich die Blöcke nahtlos mit anderen Themenquilts kombinieren und vielseitig einsetzen.

The blocks are available in 9- and 18-inch sizes (both sizes are included in the pattern), which you might already be familiar with from my other projects like the Animal Quilt, ABC-Animal Quilt, Vehicle Quilt, Pirate Quilt, or Christmas Quilt. This makes it easy to seamlessly combine the blocks with other themed quilts and use them in a variety of ways.

So nähst du die Dinosaurier Quilt Blöcke / How to Sew the Dinosaur Quilt Blocks
Die Blöcke werden traditionell aus Quadraten und Rechtecken genäht, ohne FPP, Applikation oder Kurven. Damit ist dieses Projekt auch für Anfänger geeignet.
Für die Blöcke habe ich weiße Stoffe als Hintergrund gewählt, damit die Dinosaurier-Motive richtig zur Geltung kommen. Genäht habe ich sie aus Uni-Stoffen, hauptsächlich Kona Cottons von Robert Kaufman, die durch ihre klare, kräftige Farbpalette überzeugen.
The blocks are traditionally pieced using squares and rectangles—no FPP, applique, or curves involved. This makes the project beginner-friendly.
For the blocks, I chose white fabrics as the background to make the dinosaur designs really stand out. I used solid fabrics for the dinosaurs, primarily Kona Cottons by Robert Kaufman, which are known for their vibrant and bold color palette.

Das Sashing: Bunte Rauten für deinen Dinosaurier Quilt /The Sashing: Colorful Diamonds for Your Dinosaur Quilt
Beim Design meines Dinosaurier Quilts habe ich mich für ein farbenfrohes Sashing entschieden, das perfekt zu den Dino-Blöcken passt. Zwischen den einzelnen Blöcken habe ich quadratische Rauten in bunten Farben eingesetzt.
For the design of my Dinosaur Quilt, I chose a colorful sashing that complements the dinosaur blocks perfectly. Between each block, I used square diamonds in bright, vibrant colors.
Die Rauten setzen farbliche Akzente und fügen sich harmonisch in das Gesamtbild ein. Außerdem sorgen sie für eine lebendige Struktur und unterbrechen die weißen Hintergrundstoffe der Blöcke auf charmante Weise.
The diamonds add colorful accents and blend harmoniously into the overall design. They also provide a lively texture and charmingly break up the white background fabrics of the blocks.

Das Quilt Sandwich – Vorbereitung ist alles / The Quilt Sandwich – Preparation is Key
Wenn alle Blöcke fertig sind und das Quilt-Top zusammengenäht ist, wird das Quilt Sandwich vorbereitet. Dabei gehe ich wie folgt vor:
- Backing: Für die Rückseite habe ich einen Off-White-Stoff mit unregelmäßigen schwarzen Linien gewählt. Das dezente Muster harmoniert mit den kräftigen Farben der Dinosaurier und gibt dem Quilt ein modernes Finish.
- Batting: Ich nutze hochwertiges Batting für eine angenehme Haptik und gute Stabilität.
- Fixieren: Die drei Schichten werden mit Quiltnadeln fixiert. Das Basting mit Sicherheitsnadeln sorgt dafür, dass nichts verrutscht und der Stoff beim Quilten glatt bleibt.
Das sorgfältige Fixieren ist ein wichtiger Schritt, um später beim Quilten saubere Ergebnisse zu erzielen.
Once all the blocks are finished and the quilt top is pieced together, it’s time to prepare the quilt sandwich. Here’s how I go about it:
- Backing: For the backing, I chose an off-white fabric with irregular black lines. The subtle pattern complements the bold colors of the dinosaurs and gives the quilt a modern finish.
- Batting: I use high-quality batting for a soft feel and good stability.
- Basting: The three layers are secured with quilting pins. Basting with safety pins ensures that nothing shifts and the fabric stays smooth while quilting.
Carefully basting is a crucial step to achieving clean results when quilting.
Quilting – Wellenlinien für ein dynamisches Design / Quilting – Wavy Lines for a Dynamic Design
Das Quilting verleiht dem Dinosaurier Quilt Struktur und Tiefe. Diesmal habe ich mich für geschwungene Wellenlinien entschieden, die im Abstand von 1 Inch verlaufen. Dieses Design passt wunderbar zum Thema, da es an Erdschichten oder sanfte Bewegung erinnert und den Quilt lebendig wirken lässt.
The quilting adds structure and depth to the Dinosaur Quilt. This time, I chose curved wavy lines spaced 1 inch apart. This design works perfectly with the theme, as it evokes images of earth layers or gentle movement, giving the quilt a lively, dynamic feel.
Die Wellenlinien sind nicht nur ästhetisch, sondern auch funktional, da sie die Schichten des Quilts sicher verbinden. Das Nähen dieser Linien macht richtig Spaß und verleiht dem Quilt einen einzigartigen Charakter.
The wavy lines are not only aesthetic but also functional, as they securely bind the layers of the quilt. Sewing these lines is a lot of fun and gives the quilt a unique character.
Das Binding: Der perfekte Abschluss für den Dinosaurier Quilt / The Binding: The Perfect Finish for the Dinosaur Quilt
Das Binding gibt dem Dinosaurier Quilt den letzten Schliff und fasst ihn harmonisch ein. Für das Binding hatte ich drei verschiedene Stoffe zur Auswahl: einen gelb-weiß dünn gestreiften Stoff, einen blauen Stoff mit roten und pinken Streifen und schließlich einen blau-braun breit gestreiften Stoff.
The binding gives the Dinosaur Quilt its final touch and frames it harmoniously. For the binding, I had three different fabrics to choose from: a yellow-and-white thin striped fabric, a blue fabric with red and pink stripes, and finally, a blue-brown wide striped fabric.
Nach einigem Überlegen habe ich mich für den blau-braun gestreiften Stoff entschieden. Die breiten Streifen greifen die Farben des Quilts wunderbar auf und bilden einen perfekten Rahmen.
Bevor es ans Binding geht, muss der Quilt zunächst getrimmt werden. Dabei schneide ich die überstehenden Ränder des Quilt-Sandwiches ab und sorge für eine saubere, gleichmäßige Kante, an die das Binding später angenäht wird.
After some consideration, I decided to go with the blue-brown striped fabric. The wide stripes beautifully complement the colors of the quilt and create a perfect frame.
Before attaching the binding, the quilt must first be trimmed. I cut off the excess edges of the quilt sandwich to ensure a clean, even edge to which the binding will later be sewn.
Das Annähen des Bindings ist immer der letzte Schritt beim Quiltprozess – und ein ganz besonderer Moment! Ich nähe das Binding mit der Maschine sowohl an die Vorder- als auch an die Rückseite des Quilts an. Diese Technik spart Zeit und sorgt für ein gleichmäßiges Finish. Sobald das Binding fest sitzt, fühlt sich der Quilt vollständig an, bereit für gemütliche Stunden oder ein liebevolles Geschenk.
Sewing on the binding is always the final step in the quilting process – and a truly special moment! I sew the binding onto both the front and back of the quilt by machine. This technique saves time and ensures an even finish. Once the binding is securely in place, the quilt feels complete, ready for cozy moments or as a heartfelt gift.
Ein Quilt für die Ewigkeit / A Quilt for Eternity
Der fertige Dinosaurier Quilt ist nicht nur ein Hingucker, sondern auch eine Decke, die zum Kuscheln einlädt. Mit seinen kräftigen Farben, den klaren Formen und den sorgfältig gearbeiteten Details ist er ideal für ein Kinderzimmer oder als besonderes Geschenk.
The finished Dinosaur Quilt is not only a visual standout but also a blanket that invites cuddling. With its vibrant colors, bold shapes, and carefully crafted details, it’s perfect for a child’s room or as a special gift.
