Die Blogserie #vehiclequilt geht in die 2. Runde. In der Blogserie stelle ich jeden Block einzeln in einem Beitrag vor. Ich zeige Dir anhand eines Näh-Photo-Tutorials einige Schritte, wie der jeweilige #vehiclequilt Block genäht wird.

Heute stelle ich Dir die Schulbus Block Anleitung genauer vor.

Today I present you the Schoolbus Block Pattern in more detail.

Wann ist die Schule aus? / When does school end?

Der nächste Block, den ich Dir vorstellen möchte ist der Schulbus Block. Amerikanische Schulbusse haben ja was Kultiges. Ich kenne sie leider nur aus Filmen. Leider? Eventuell ist die Vorstellung auch etwas verklärt und es ist gar nicht so toll in ihnen zu fahren?

The next block I would like to introduce to you is the schoolbus block. American schoolbuses have something cultish about them. Unfortunately, I only know them from movies. Unfortunately? Perhaps the image is also somewhat glorified and it is not so great to ride in them?

Erste Entwürfe / First drafts

Wie beim Bagger Block waren auch hier meine ersten Bauteile Quadrate und Rechtecke. Klar ist hier der markante Faktor des Fahrzeugs die Farbe Gelb. Also erstmal ordentlich davon. Schwierigkeit bei diesem Block war es, ein so langes Fahrzeug in ein Quadrat unterzukriegen, zumal bei dem Fahrzeug ja die Klapptür ein so wesentlicher Bestandteil ist, der viel Platz braucht. Gefolgt von der langen Motorhaube… Folgend mal ein kleiner Einblick, wie die ersten Entwürfe zum Schulbus Block aussahen. Ich hoffe natürlich, Ihr findet nicht einen dieser Entwürfe besser! Das sind nur einige „Skizzen“.

As with the crawler excavator block, my first components for the school bus were squares and rectangles. Of course, the striking factor of the vehicle is the color yellow. So first of all a lot of it. The difficulty with this block was to fit such a long vehicle into a square, especially since the folding door is such an essential part of the vehicle that needs a lot of space. Followed by the long hood… The following is a little insight into how the first drafts of the school bus block looked like. I hope you don’t find one of the other designs better! These are just some of the „sketches“.

Schulbus Block Anleitung

Die vehiclequilt Blöcke gibt es als kleinen 9 inch Block und als großen 18 inch Block. Dieses Näh-Foto-Tutorial zeigt die 18 inch Blockgröße. Alle Nähschritte sind bei der 18 inch Blockgröße gleich, aber einige Teilstücke des großen Blocks sehen etwas anders aus.
Zuerst schneiden wir alle Teile zurecht, die wir brauchen. Die 2. Seite der Anleitung zeigt Dir die genaue Schnittanleitung für den kleinen und großen Block in einer übersichtlichen Tabelle.

Ich habe alle Schnittteile nach Farben sortiert ausgelegt. Auf der zweiten Seite der Anleitung findest Du auch das Stoffdiagramm, so dass Du jedes der zugeschnittenen Teile mit dem richtigen Buchstaben beschriften kannst.

Für den Schulbus Block habe ich folgende Stoffe verwendet:

Weißer Stoff: Luxus Baumwolle, weiss von Stoff und Stil
Grauer Stoff: Luxus Baumwolle, hellgrau von Stoff und Stil
Gelber Stoff: sunny yellow von Kona Cotton
Orangener Stoff: orange von Kona Cotton
Blauer Stoff: Yarn dyed essex chambray von Robert Kaufman
Schwarzer Stoff: Yarn dyed essex shale von Robert Kaufman

Schoolbus Block Pattern

The vehiclequilt blocks come in a small 9 inch block and a large 18 inch block. This sewing photo tutorial shows the 18 inch block size. All the sewing steps are the same for the 18 inch block size, but some pieces of the large block look a little different.
First, we cut all the pieces we need. The 2nd page of the tutorial shows you the exact cutting instructions for the small and large block in a clear chart.

I used to lay them out, all sorted by color. Second page of the pattern also shows you the fabric diagram, so you can label each of your cut pieces with the right letter.

I used the following fabrics for the school bus block:

White fabric: Luxus Baumwolle, weiss by Stoff und Stil
Grey fabric: Luxus Baumwolle, hellgrau by Stoff und Stil
Yellow fabric: sunny yellow by Kona Cotton
Orange fabric: orange by Kona Cotton
Blue fabric: Yarn dyed essex chambray by Robert Kaufman
Black fabric: Yarn dyed essex shale by Robert Kaufman

For all vehiclequilt blocks, there is one recommendation I would like to give you. Check your 1/4 seam allowance. It’s very easy to do! I’ve created a little illustrated tutorial for this in the „Bagger Block“ post that describes the steps. This way: Crawler excavator block

Alle bitte einsteigen, es geht mit dem Nähen los / Everyone please get on board, it’s time to start sewing

Die ersten Schritte des Schulbusses sind sehr einfach, daher zeige ich diese hier nicht. Ich steige bei der Anleitung ein, bei einem Schritt bei dem Du die „easy corner triangle method“ brauchst. Klingt viel komplizierter als es ist. So geht es:

The first steps of the schoolbus are very simple, so I won’t show them here. I’ll get into the instructions at a step where you need the „easy corner triangle method“. Sounds a lot more complicated than it is. Here’s how it works:

Nimm ein weißes Quadrat und zeichne eine diagonale Linie auf die Rückseite. Leg es dann rechts auf rechts auf den gelben Streifen.

*Take a white square and draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of your fabric. Place it right sides together onto the yellow strip.*

Näh auf der gezeichneten Linie.

*Sew on the drawn line.*

Schneide 1/4 inch neben der Naht.

*Cut 1/4 inch next to your sewn line.*

Nahtzugaben auseinander bügeln.

*Press seam open.*

Die Klapptür entsteht / The flap door is created

Die Klapptür wird genäht. Nimm die dafür notwenigen Stoffteile und leg sie nach Anleitung aus.

The flap door is sewn. Take the necessary pieces of fabric and lay them out according to the step by step instruction.

Erst werden die Reihen zusammengenäht.

*First, the rows are sewn together.*

Anschließend folgt der Streifen in der Mitte.

*Then follows the strip in the middle.*

Und fertig ist die Klapptür des Schulbusses.

*And ready is the folding door of the school bus.*

Der Schulbus braucht einen Außenspiegel / The school bus needs an outside mirror

Der Außenspiegel ist auch sehr einfach genäht. Hier zeige ich, wie es geht:

The exterior mirror is also very simple sewing. Here I show how to do it:

Näh zuerst die beiden kleinen Quadrate zusammen. Anschlißend das Rechteck oben und das Quadrt unten.

*First sew the two small squares together. Then sew the rectangle at the top and the square at the bottom.*

Jetzt wird ein weißer Streifen an die Seite genäht…

*Now a white stripe is sewn to the side….*

…und fertig ist der Außenspiegel.

Die Autoreifen des Schulbusses / The wheels of the Schoolbus

The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round… Bei den Autoreifen gibt es eine Besonderheit. Der 9 inch Block näht sich exakt ie der 18 inch Block – die einzelnen Nähstücke sehen nur etwas anders aus. Folgend zeige ich Dir das Näh-Foto-Turorial des 18 inch Blocks. Unten dann wiederhole ich die Schritte, zeige aber den 9 inch Block. So hast Du den direkten Vergleich und kannst schauen, ob Deine Nähteile gleich aussehen.

The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round…. There is a special feature with the car tires. The 9 inch block sews exactly like the 18 inch block – the individual sewing pieces just look a little different. Below I show you the sewing photo tutorial of the 18 inch block. Then below I repeat the steps, but show the 9 inch block. So you have the direct comparison and can see if your sewing pieces look the same.

Nimm 2 gelbe und 2 weiße Quadrate und zeichne diagonale Linien auf die Rückseite. Achte dabei auf die Richtung der Linien. Lege sie auf die schwarzen Rechtecke.

Schneide 1/4 inch neben der Naht, Nahtzugaben auseinander bügeln. So sieht der obere und untere Teil des Autorades aus.

Nimm 2 gelbe und 2 weiße Quadrate und zeichne diagonale Linien auf die Rückseite. Achte dabei auf die Richtung der Linien. Lege sie auf die schwarzen Rechtecke.

Die Quadrate verdecken die schwarzen Rechtecke vollständig. Das ist der Unterscheid zum 18 inch Block

Schneide 1/4 inch neben der Naht, Nahtzugaben auseinander bügeln. Der obere und untere Teil des Rades sieht aus wie ein Flying Geese.

Fertigstellung des Schulbus Blocks / Finish the schoolbus block

Der Schulbus Block hat 5 „Units“. Ich zähle die 4 weißen Randstücke nicht mit. Jeder Block des #vehiclequilts ist in „Units“ unterteilt. In der Anleitung zeige ich eine Abbildung, auf dem die „Units“ zu sehen sind. So ist die Schritt-für-Schritt-Anleitung auch für Anfänger super einfach zu befolgen.

The school bus block has 5 „units“. I am not counting the 4 white border pieces. Each block of the #vehiclequilt is divided into „units“. In the instructions I show a picture where you can see the „Units“. This makes the step-by-step instructions super easy to follow, even for beginners.
