Den Kurvenblock, wie alle Schienen-Blöcke, die eine perfekte Ergänzung zum Zug Quilt sind, gibt es in zwei Größen, 9 und 18 Inch.

The track series continues! Today I’m showing you the second track block – the Curve. Like all the track blocks, which are a perfect addition to the Train Quilt, the curve block comes in two sizes: 9 and 18 inches.

Each new blog post in this series includes the instructions for another track block, which I’m sharing here for free. This way, you can gradually build your own track network and create fun combinations with the train and wagon blocks.

Du kannst einen ganzen Quilt nur mit Schienenblöcken gestalten oder die Gleise als Rückseite für deinen Train Quilt verwenden. So hast du auf der Vorderseite zum Beispiel Lokomotiven und Waggons – und auf der Rückseite eine tolle Spielunterlage mit Schienennetz.
Hier zeige ich dir einige Ideen, wie die Blöcke zu einem spannenden Schienennetz kombiniert werden können. In der Bildunterschrift findest du die jeweilige Größe und Anzahl der Blöcke.
You can create a complete quilt using only track blocks or use the tracks as the backing for your Train Quilt. This way, you’ll have locomotives and wagons on the front, and a wonderful play surface with a railway layout on the back.
Here are some ideas on how the blocks can be combined to form an exciting track network. The caption below each image shows the size and number of blocks used.

The track blocks take you on a creative journey along your very own railway line! Stoffauswahl / Fabric Selection
Sobald du dein Schienen-Layout geplant hast, kann das Nähen beginnen.
Bei den Stoffen bist du völlig frei: Ich habe für die Schiene ein Grau verwendet und für die Schwellen ein helleres Braun. das Grün drumherum darf gerne abwechslungsreich sein – wie die Natur entlang echter Bahnstrecken.
In den Schritt-für-Schritt-Anleitungen verwende ich Unistoffe, damit die einzelnen Teile gut erkennbar sind. Aber natürlich kannst du auch deine Scraps mit Prints nutzen – je bunter, desto lebendiger!
Once you’ve planned your track layout, it’s time to start sewing.
You have complete freedom with your fabrics: I used gray for the tracks and a lighter brown for the sleepers. The surrounding green can be varied – just like the natural landscapes along real railway lines.
In the step-by-step instructions, I use solid fabrics so each piece is easy to see. Of course, you can also use your scraps with prints – the more colorful, the livelier your quilt will be!
Zuschnitt Schienenkurve / Cutting Curve Track
Zuerst schneidest du alle Stoffteile sauber zu und sortierst sie übersichtlich. Am besten versiehst du jedes Teil mit einem Buchstaben, damit du beim Zusammennähen den Überblick behältst – besonders bei vielen Teilen ist das sehr hilfreich. Das Diagramm zeigt die Farben der Stoffe, die Buchstaben für jedes Teil, die Anzahl der benötigten Teile in Klammern und die Maße für den 18 inch Block in der ersten Spalte sowie für den 9 inch Block in der zweiten Spalte. So siehst du auf einen Blick, welche Stoffe und Größen du für deinen Block zuschneiden musst.
First, cut all your fabric pieces carefully and sort them in an organized way. It’s best to label each piece with a letter so you can keep track while sewing – this is especially helpful when there are many pieces. The diagram shows the fabric colors, the letters for each piece, the number of pieces needed in parentheses, and the measurements for the 18 inch block in the first column and the 9 inch block in the second column. This way, you can see at a glance which fabrics and sizes you need to cut for your block.

Schritt für Schritt Anleitung / Step by step instruction
Für den Block nähst du die einzelnen Schritte der Reihe nach, so wie sie auf den Bildern gezeigt werden. Die Maßangaben unter den Beschreibungen geben dir jeweils die Größe des Teilstücks in 18 Inch an, die Werte in Klammern zeigen die Maße für den 9-Inch-Block.
Ich bügle die Nahtzugaben zu etwa 99 % auseinander – nur ganz selten in eine Richtung. Bei den Schienenblöcken habe ich am Ende oft in Richtung des grauen Schienenstoffs gebügelt, das hebt die Schienen noch mehr hervor. Letztlich ist es Geschmackssache, bügle sie so, wie es für dich am besten passt.
For the block, sew the steps in order, just as shown in the pictures. The measurements below each description indicate the size of the piece for the 18-inch block, with the values in parentheses showing the dimensions for the 9-inch block.
I press the seam allowances open about 99% of the time – only very rarely in one direction. For the track blocks, I often pressed them toward the grey track fabric at the end, which makes the tracks stand out even more. Ultimately, it’s a matter of personal preference, so press them in the way that works best for you.
The cutting is done and your pieces are labeled with the corresponding letters. Now you’re ready to start sewing.
Sew pieces FKEK-O-IMHM together.
Sew pieces F-K-E-K together.
Sew pieces I-M-H-M together.
Sew pieces FKEK-O-IMHM together.
Place piece D on J and sew from corner to corner.
Cut 1/4 inch next to your sewn line
Place piece D on DJ and sew from corner to corner again. Cut 1/4 inch next to the seam.
Cut 1/4 inch next to your sewn line
Place piece Q on DJD and sew from corner to corner. Cut 1/4 inch next to the seam.
Cut 1/4 inch next to your sewn line
Place piece Q on DJDQ and sew from corner to corner. Cut 1/4 inch next to the seam.

Sew the pieces together.
Sew pieces M-H-M-I together, then attach to D.
Sew pieces K-E-K-F together, then attach to O.
Sew the pieces together.
Attach pieces R and N.
Place piece G on L and sew from corner to corner.
Cut 1/4 inch next to your sewn line.
Place piece G on GL and sew from corner to corner.
Place piece I on GLG and sew from corner to corner.
Place piece P on the sewn section and sew from corner to corner.
Cut 1/4 inch next to your sewn line.
Place GLGI on the sewn section and sew from corner to corner.
Cut 1/4 inch next to your sewn line.
Attach I-M-H-M-B.
Sew pieces M-H-M-I together, then attach to D.
Sew C on.
Sew CMHMID together, then attach A.
Der fertige Schienenblock
Die Schienenkurve ist geschafft! Jetzt hast du schon zwei Schienen-Blöcke für deinen Train Quilt fertig und kannst damit beginnen, dein eigenes Streckennetz zusammenzusetzen. Auch die restlichen sechs Blöcke sind schnell genäht und erweitern deine Bahnstrecke um viele spannende Varianten. Wird es bei dir eher eine lange Hauptstrecke, viele Abzweigungen oder vielleicht ein kompletter Rundkurs? Ich bin gespannt, was du daraus machst.
Falls dir noch ein besonderer Schienen-Block fehlt, den ich unbedingt aufnehmen sollte, freue ich mich über deine Ideen.

The curve track is complete! Now you already have two track blocks for your Train Quilt and can start assembling your own railway layout. The remaining six blocks are also quick to sew and will add lots of exciting variations to your track. Will you create a long main line, lots of turnoffs, or maybe a complete loop?
