A labor of love! This Mountain Animal Quilt was made as a gift for a newborn baby of friends who love spending time in the mountains. Ich habe mich für 16 große Tierblöcke entschieden, die jeweils 18 Inch groß sind. Jeder Block zeigt ein anderes Tier der Berge und verleiht dem Quilt seinen besonderen Charakter. I decided on 16 large animal blocks, each measuring 18 inches. Each block features a different mountain animal, giving the quilt its unique character. Click on the images below to see each block in detail and to go directly to the shop for the pattern.
Das Zusammensetzen der 16 Blöcke in 4 x 4 Reihen hat richtig Spaß gemacht. Es war wie ein großes Puzzle, bei dem man ausprobieren konnte, bis alles perfekt passt. Die verschiedenen Tierblöcke so anzuordnen, dass ein harmonisches Bild entsteht, war eine kreative und spielerische Herausforderung.
Assembling the 16 blocks into 4 x 4 rows was a lot of fun. It felt like working on a big puzzle, trying out different arrangements until everything fit perfectly. Arranging the various animal blocks to create a harmonious overall design was a creative and playful challenge.
Das Zusammennähen der Blöcke und Reihen war der nächste Schritt. Stück für Stück fügten sich die Tierblöcke zu einem größeren Ganzen zusammen. Am Ende entstand ein tolles Quilttop, das die Vielfalt und Schönheit der Bergtiere perfekt zur Geltung bringt und den Bergtier-Quilt vollendet.
Sewing the blocks and rows together was the next step. Piece by piece, the animal blocks came together to form a larger whole. In the end, a wonderful quilt top emerged, showcasing the diversity and beauty of the mountain animals and completing the Mountain Animal Quilt perfectly.
Quiltsandwich
Für das Quiltsandwich habe ich einen flauschigen Flanellstoff für die Rückseite verwendet. Das sorgt dafür, dass der Bergtier-Quilt noch kuscheliger wird und das Baby sich richtig wohlfühlen kann. Zusätzlich habe ich ein Baumwollvlies als Batting verwendet, das dem Quilt extra Wärme und Komfort verleiht. Mit dem weichen Flanell und dem Baumwollvlies wird der Quilt nicht nur schön warm, sondern auch besonders gemütlich.
For the quilt sandwich, I used a fluffy flannel fabric for the backing. This makes the Mountain Animal Quilt even cozier and ensures the baby feels truly comfortable. Additionally, I used a cotton batting, which adds extra warmth and comfort to the quilt. With the soft flannel and cotton batting, the quilt is not only warm but also exceptionally cozy.
Beim Zusammenfügen von Quilt-Top, Vlies und Rückseite habe ich darauf geachtet, alles gründlich glatt zu streichen. So konnten keine Falten entstehen und der Quilt blieb beim Quilten schön eben. Ein wenig Geduld in diesem Schritt macht den Unterschied und sorgt für ein superglattes Ergebnis ohne unschöne Knitterstellen.
When putting together the quilt top, batting, and backing, I made sure to smooth everything out thoroughly. This prevented any wrinkles from forming and kept the quilt nice and flat during quilting. A little patience in this step makes all the difference, resulting in a perfectly smooth finish without any unsightly creases.
Danach habe ich alles mit Quilt-Sicherheitsnadeln gesichert. Diese kleinen Helfer sorgen dafür, dass sich nichts verschiebt und alles schön an Ort und Stelle bleibt. So kann ich mich ganz auf das Quilten konzentrieren, ohne mir Gedanken über verrutschende Lagen machen zu müssen.
Next, I secured everything with quilt safety pins. These little helpers keep everything in place and prevent shifting, allowing me to focus entirely on quilting without worrying about the layers moving around.
Das Quilten des Bergtier-Quilts / Quilting the Mountain Animal Quilt
Bevor es ans Quilten ging, habe ich die Linien mit einem luftlöslichen Stift eingezeichnet, um das Design vorzubereiten. So konnte ich sicherstellen, dass alles ordentlich und gleichmäßig aussieht und es später beim Quilten keine Überraschungen gibt. Diese Vorbereitung ist der Schlüssel zu einem schönen Ergebnis.
Before I started quilting, I marked the lines with a air-soluble pen to prepare the design. This helped ensure that everything looked neat and even, so there would be no surprises later on. This preparation is key to achieving a beautiful result.
Beim Quilten des Bergtier-Quilts habe ich den Walking Foot verwendet, um zu verhindern, dass die Stofflagen verrutschen. So konnte ich sicherstellen, dass die Linien schön gerade bleiben und das Muster präzise umgesetzt wird.
When quilting the Mountain Animal Quilt, I used the walking foot to prevent the fabric layers from shifting. This helped ensure that the lines stayed straight and the pattern was applied precisely.
Für das Quiltmuster habe ich mich für Linien aus Halbkreisen entschieden, die wie eine verspielte Girlande aussehen. Diese runden Formen bringen eine fröhliche und dekorative Note in den Bergtier-Quilt. Die sanften Kurven passen super zu den Tiermotiven und verleihen dem Quilt eine tolle Textur und ein schönes, lebendiges Muster. For the quilt pattern, I chose lines of half-circles that resemble a playful garland. These round shapes add a cheerful and decorative touch to the Mountain Animal Quilt. Binding
Die Auswahl des Stoffes für das Binding war ein entscheidender Schritt, da es den finalen Abschluss des Quilts bildet und das Gesamtbild maßgeblich beeinflusst. Ich hatte sieben verschiedene Stoffe zur Auswahl und mir fiel die Entscheidung nicht leicht. Nach sorgfältigem Überlegen habe ich mich für einen Stoff entschieden, der die Farben und das Design des Bergtier-Quilts perfekt ergänzt. Dieses Detail gibt dem Quilt den letzten Schliff und sorgt für einen harmonischen Abschluss. Welchen Stoff hättest du gewählt?
Choosing the fabric for the binding was a crucial step, as it completes the quilt and significantly influences the overall look. I had seven different fabrics to choose from, and making a decision was not easy. After careful consideration, I selected a fabric that perfectly complements the colors and design of the Mountain Animal Quilt. This detail gives the quilt its finishing touch and ensures a harmonious conclusion. Which fabric would you have chosen?
Letztendlich habe ich mich für den gelb-weiß gestreiften Stoff als Binding entschieden. Diese fröhlichen Streifen bringen einen hellen, freundlichen Akzent an den Rand des Bergtier-Quilts und passen wunderbar zu den bunten Tiermotiven. Der gelb-weiße Stoff rundet das Gesamtbild perfekt ab.
In the end, I chose the yellow and white striped fabric for the binding. These cheerful stripes add a bright, friendly touch to the edge of the Mountain Animal Quilt and complement the colorful animal motifs beautifully. The yellow and white fabric provides a perfect finishing touch to the overall design.
Bevor der Quilt ganz fertig ist, muss ich ihn noch trimmen. Dabei werden die Kanten gerade und gleichmäßig geschnitten, damit das Binding später perfekt passt. Mit diesem Schritt sorge ich dafür, dass der Bergtier-Quilt rundum ordentlich und schön aussieht.
Before the quilt is fully finished, I need to trim it. This involves cutting the edges straight and even so that the binding fits perfectly. This step ensures that the Mountain Animal Quilt looks neat and polished all around.
Diesmal habe ich das Binding von Hand angenäht, damit es noch schöner wird und man keine Stiche sieht. Den ersten Teil habe ich natürlich mit der Maschine gemacht, weil das einfach schneller geht. Da der Quilt ein Geschenk für ein neugeborenes Baby ist, war es mir besonders wichtig, dass er perfekt wird.
This time, I sewed the binding by hand to make it look even nicer and to ensure that no stitches are visible. I sewed the first part with the machine, as it’s much faster. Since the quilt is a gift for a newborn baby, it was especially important to me that it turned out perfect.
Jetzt ist der Quilt endlich fertig, und ich freue mich sehr darüber, wie er geworden ist. Ich hoffe, dass er dem Baby lange Freude bereitet und ein treuer Wegbegleiter wird. Mit all den liebevoll gestalteten Tiermotiven und der extra kuscheligen Rückseite soll er für viele schöne Momente sorgen.
Now that the quilt is finally finished, I’m thrilled with how it turned out. I hope it brings joy to the baby for years to come and becomes a cherished companion. With its lovingly crafted animal motifs and extra cozy backing, it’s designed to provide comfort and create many special moments.
